At the start of the 2000s, in the early years of Marc Jacobs’ tenure at Louis Vuitton, the house wove its century-old Monogram into a lustrous satin jacquard. The pattern appears tone-on-tone, catching the light instead of announcing itself.

The Little Boulogne was the line’s small shoulder bag. It has a soft crescent shape and a short strap that sits neatly under the arm. It came in three colourways, noir, brown and red. The satin line has long been discontinued.

We are fortunate to hold two of the three, noir and brown. Both date from 2001 and were made in France, and they are offered side by side here.

Gabrielle Chanel never believed jewellery had to be precious to be beautiful. She wore faux pearls by the rope and layered gilded chains over simple jersey, and in doing so she made costume jewellery, the bijoux fantaisie, part of everyday elegance.

Her house turned that attitude into a vocabulary of its own: the interlocking CC struck onto coin-like medallions, faux pearls finished with a single CC drop, crystal-set logos, and a plaque engraved “31 Rue Cambon, Paris”, the address of the Chanel maison since 1918.

The pieces gathered here come from different seasons and decades, yet they share the same warm gilt and sense of play. Wear a medallion chain at the waist, pin a crystal CC to a jacket lapel, or let a single pair of clip-on earrings do all the talking.
